- Autodesk Products and Technologies Featured at NAB 2008: The Autodesk® Lustre® color-grading software is a premier high-performance solution for interactive film or HDTV grading and look creation. Production-proven, Lustre has been used to grade hundreds of movies and television shows worldwide. It provides high-quality, real-time color-grading capabilities for today’s data-centric workflows.
If you plan to attend NAB 2008, Autodesk will be showcasing the most recent release of Lustre, which features an expanded GPU-accelerated grading toolset, automatic shape tracking, and a multi-layer timeline.
- Concurrent Color Grading Workflows – Autodesk will be demonstrating concurrent workflows with Lustre, Autodesk® Smoke® and Autodesk® Flame® software for film and television. Concurrent workflows give facilities the flexibility to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and enable artists performing different functions to work on the same shot, at the same time, on different systems in various formats, including compressed media.
- Autodesk Incinerator – Autodesk® Incinerator® uses the latest in high-performance computing cluster technology to increase real-time performance, interactivity with Lustre systems during grading sessions and very fast foreground or background rendering speed.
- Automatic Shape Tracker – tracks areas of interest quickly and accurately without establishing tracking points, even if the shapes are moving, scaling or rotating!
- Autodesk Control Surface– The modular and elegant Autodesk Control Surface is designed to give colorists an intuitive and ergonomic way of accessing all of the common color grading functions available in Lustre.
- Multi-layer Editorial Timeline - Editorial changes in the DI suite are a fact of life, and the new timeline in Lustre gives colorists the tools they need to make edits quickly and efficiently. Perform shot and grade versioning in the multi-layer timeline. Try out multiple looks on a single shot and apply the same look to different takes.
- Lustre Demo Schedule and Presenters – Autodesk will showcase Lustre and provide demonstrations at the Autodesk booth (# SL1420) in demo pods, theatre and private demo rooms Please stop by and meet our Lustre product development team, who will be available to answer your questions or discuss your needs.

Step into the CORE…
Resolve - A startlingly powerful new version of the da Vinci Resolve® digital mastering suite will be unveiled at NAB. The new Resolve based on da Vinci’s C.O.R.E.™ (CUDA™ Optimized Resolve Engine) implements advanced technology and harnesses the massively parallel processing of GPUs to deliver remarkably faster and more powerful operation for demanding color enhancement and image processing, such as that required in DI applications.
The C.O.R.E. technology is architected to be hugely scalable for unlimited performance. The Resolve R200, with a single C.O.R.E, works faster than any system da Vinci has ever delivered, while the Resolve R300, with two C.O.R.E., is twice as fast as the R200.
In addition, C.O.R.E. will open up the future of image and color processing with reiterative floating point calculations unleashing future potential for features and tools as well as and extended dynamic range color space management.
The Resolve R Series will initially include: R200, R250, R300 and R350.
Existing Resolve customers will be able to plug and play this processing capability into their systems.
Transformer 2™ and Telecine Control – da Vinci has set the standard for mastering quality real-time Pan, Tilt, Zoom and Rotate (PTZR) with the Transformer. The 2nd generation version exceeds the first and adds additional features and capabilities to da Vinci’s Resolve and Splice products. Multiple transformer support increases the throughput and functionality of these systems. Transformer 2 features multi-standard video I/O as well as expanded multiple device control. da Vinci’s vast experience in controlling telecines, VTRs, DDRs and other devices is built into Transformer 2!
Again, existing Resolve customers can plug and play into a new Transformer 2.
Real-time, 4K interactive Grading – da Vinci will demonstrate a true 4K DI grading solution as a part of the hourly presentation on DI and Commercial workflows. 4K is only the beginning of resolution and process capabilities of the innovative C.O.R.E. technology, including Stereoscopic 3D and extended dynamic range.
BrightClip – da Vinci has always been open to dedicated local storage and/or external third party storage systems such as Bright Systems. da Vinci is the first to support BrightClip™. Anytime disk storage is used, data churning and fragmentation are major problems causing loss of performance and real-time playback. Using BrightClip, da Vinci can dynamically preallocate storage space on BrightDrive™ and record clips in sequence. This eliminates fragmentation from the storage equation, and optimizes the performance of the disks.
Splice 2.4 – The latest version of Splice, da Vinci’s versatile post-production appliance will be demonstrated. Originally developed to enable nonlinear, in-context color grading on the da Vinci 2K® or 2K Plus™, the system is able to address additional functions to improve the post-production workflow, including operating as a source or a recorder in a Resolve digital mastering suite, or functioning as a standalone conform station to automate layoff of variously versioned deliverables.
Splice 2.4 takes advantage of da Vinci’s exclusive Transformer 2 technology to provide real-time sizing and rotation at unparalleled image quality. Splice also incorporates the da Vinci ColorTrace™ tool for even tighter integration with 2K systems. Splice sessions are now automatically loaded and synchronized with 2K sessions while the video standard selected by the 2K remains completely independent of data resolution.
Splice’s comprehensive stand-alone functions include conforming EDLs to create record-mode in-context timelines, with support for mixed resolutions on the same timeline; interactive creation or modification of a timeline with cuts, dissolves and speed changes; side-by-side comparisons of conform and offline; EDL export; QC using data waveform displays; and batch playout of data files to VTR either in source or record mode.
Commercial Workflow – da Vinci continues to enhance a sharing and collaborative environment for a wide variety of projects including Broadcast, Commercials, Episodic Television and Feature Film DI. The concept of shared databases and versatile interaction with all of the departments continues to improve and expand. a) Restoration and Fix-It – including exclusive integration with da Vinci’s Revival b) VFX department – including LUTs, lists and image sequences. c) Editorial – including integration with Avid and Apple lists and formats. d) Dailies – da Vinci supports a wide variety of film and electronic acquisition workflows
Have a great show and be sure to stop by and see da Vinci!

Cine-tal Systems to acquire cineSpace product line from Rising Sun Research.- Cine-tal has reached an agreement with Rising Sun Research (RSR) to wholly acquire its cineSpace color management technology and product line. Cine-tal will continue to develop and market cineSpace as a standalone solution for color management in visual effects and DI. Cine-tal Systems and Rising Sun Research will conduct a joint demonstration with cineSpace supporting display profiling and matching LUT generation using Cine-tal’s eL1000 and Cinemage product lines.
cineSpace is the most widely used color management technology for film and television production. It is employed by production and post production facilities worldwide to ensure that all of their displays match and conform to a specified output medium, such as a particular film stock or video format. It ensures that the images artists see on their screens are identical to how they will look when projected in a movie theater or shown on television. Cine-tal Systems will integrate cineSpace software technology with its own display management software that has been in development for several years.
The combined technology will allow users to ensure consistency of image quality when content workflow passes through several color space requirements and is viewed on different display systems. The tools will assist customers with any variation in image display when content moves from one phase of production to another, from one facility to another or from one type of display technology to another.
