today i re-combined the TIG archives from 1994 through 2003 and
re-indexed them for searching via the search facility at
http://tig.colorist.org. Here are the statistics from the perl
script:

Crawler finished: indexed 12176 files, 2538086 terms (76932
different terms).

that makes 12176 messages in 9 years, or about 3.7 messages per
day.

There will be a redirect of tig.alegria.com to tig.colorist.org
for the entries on search engine databases, but no redirects for
any TIG documents that were on www.alegria.com, which comprise
the pre-2000 archives, that are now at http://tig.colorist.org.
What this means is that the main web search engines won't be able
to find pre-2000 TIG documents until they are reindexed by their
robots in the fullness of time.

76932 different terms comprise about one-fifth of a medium-sized
dictionary, or about one half of the portion of Mike Orton's
vocabulary that is quiescent.

i'm working on the presentation of the pre-2000 archives so
they can be browsed as well as searched, but for now if you do a
search that brings results from 1994-2000 any of the messages
returned will have a link back into several indices for that
year.

an example search for Dave Corbitt brought 95 pages of 5 messages
per page results, including some historically interesting
documents.
