RE: Production design for B&W to color spot.



There is a definite difference shooting a real mono neg and shooting a
colour neg and draining the colour.

I've shot side by side tests in the past to make the point to producers.

There is a look to the "real" mono that isn't there in the drained neg.

It's the difference between a mono still printed on Agfa Brovira and one
printed on a polycontrast paper.

There is more subtlety to the mid tones, a much smoother look.

The image is made in totally different ways, with the colour neg you're
looking at the dyes left behind after the silver has been removed, with a
mono neg you're looking at the silver.

Give me HP5 any day :-)
