Spirit vertical resolution?

Hello -

I recently observed a Spirit Datacine in action (NAB) and based on my
earlier question to TIG (about the linear CCD in the Spirit) I am now curious
as to how the Spirit can so accurately position the film while scanning.
Since Spirit uses a linear (line) CCD array, the vertical resolution must be
determined by the precision of the mechanical transport of the film through
the gate. I am wondering how the Spirit can do this so accurately to achieve
the resolution that it does. Using a direct drive stepper motor is the first
thing that comes to mind, but, I don't see how that would be precise enough.
Is this how it actually is done? What is the vertical resolution of the
Spirit?

Thanks
-Jim
