I vaguely recall a reference in the Evertz manuals (4015 & 4025) that
indicates that the burned-in SMPTE-A,B,C or D indication would not display
where it was not relevent   i.e. at other than 23.98 fps transfers.  This was
intended as an aid to show you any speed problems or to just flag the viewer
that this was an off-speed transfer.

Have you tried contacting Alan Lambshead at Evertz?  He is usually very helpful.
