Kodak TAF and URSA Telecines

KODAK TAF AND URSA TELECINES

Kodak has launched new TAF film for it's Vision/Prime Time/Intermediate and Teleprint stocks.

All these films are included in Kodak's Telecine Tool Kit.

Presently the URSA range of Telecines have built in preset masking for Kodak's EXR, Prime Time and Intermediate stocks based on Kodak 1995 "Improved TAF".

Cintel has only recently been advised of the significant differences to TAF masking for Kodak's new stocks and will be reviewing it's preset masking for all users.

Meanwhile, when setting up URSA masking with the "Telecine Tool Kit" TAF please set the user masking provided on URSA to balance to the new TAF.

The URSA range of Telecines offers 2 user masking positions for each of the following film types.

NEGATIVE, INTERPOSITIVE, PRINT.
We recommend the following user masking positions be set and adjusted.

POSITION	URSA KODAK TAF	TYPE
		FILM TYPE

7 NEG Vision Negative
8 NEG Prime Time	Negative

7 IP Interpositive	from Vision Negative

7 POS Teleprint	from Vision Negative
8 POS Projection Print*

* Projection Print masking, position 1 thru 6, in URSA telecines has not been updated for many years. It would therefore be wise to use your most recent projection print TAF to set position 8 in positive mode. However Kodak have not included a new TAF for this material in the Telecine Tool Kit.

Kodak Telecine Tool Kit is available from local Kodak distributors.
