The Y factor

All,

I've been thinking about the k-scope techniques and how to get away from
them. I've been generally quite happy with the previously mentioned filter
kits and their more organic results.

But, lets be honest, the part of our craft that is severly lacking is the
three dimensional or textural aspects. The way we add grain to a given piece
of film for instance is almost hilarious in its approach. I sincerely wish
that color enhancers had the ability to to use tool sets like Kai's or Xaos
to add that extra textural dimensionality to the colorists palette.

On that thought;

Has anyone tried to break out the Luminance channel by itself and altered it
in some twisted way to be recombined downstream later? Either by softening
or adding a modulated sine wave to it?

Stirring it up.

Best,
