We have a wide aperture Rank 35mm gate which has a useful accessory,
a metal aperture plate that drops in to mask off the optical sound
track area of the film. This works very well, preventing flare from
the sound track, and is a lot easier and safer to use than cardboard
If Rank can't supply such a plate to fit your gate, then perhaps the likes of
Options International, or Video Engineering could ?
